Despite a huge increase in popularity of wines from the New World and Australasia, a great percentage of the wine consumed in the United Kingdom still comes from France and the main sources are those classified from the following major regions:
In addition to these, one must add Vins de Pays, varietal wines from specified regions, which although lacking in Appellation d' Origine Contrôlée (AC) status and by law only classed as Vins de Table, are starting to challenge traditional AC wines in terms of both quality, interest and popularity. The bottom of the rung is occupied by humble Vins de Table, wines of undetermined provenance suitable for everyday drinking.
