WINE OF THE MONTH - Valle Secreto 'First Edition' Carmenere 2017

I've enjoyed a fair few wines over the last month but I’m opting for this excellent Chilean Carmenère. Carmenère is originally from Bordeaux but was largely wiped out there by the Phylloxera epidemic of the late 19^th century. Fortunately, some cuttings found their way to Chile and were planted, although it was the best part of a century before they were identified as Carmenère as opposed to Merlot!

This version from the excellent Valle Secreto has an attractively fragrant nose with an abundance of spicy dark fruit characteristics whilst the palate is richly concentrated, full-bodied and multi-layered with a deliciously long finish.
