Bordeaux - Wine Month

bordeaux wine month

We will be running a series of tastings & promotions featuring wines from this most famous of fine wine regions throughout September to tie in with a national campaign being run by Vins de Bordeaux. As well as our usual range, we still have some more high-end bottles from the parcel that we acquired from the Chanel Islands. There will also be a Bordeaux raffle with the opportunity to win a rather splendid bottle of Claret! #bordeauxwinemonth

Beaujolais Nouveau 2019

 beaujolais nuveau

Beaujolais Nouveau is marked in France on the third Thursday in November. It celebrates the first wines of the season and is coupled with fireworks, music and festivals in France. As in previous years, we will be shipping pretty much to order, so get in touch if you want some reserved! The wine will come from J. M. Aujoux - a specialist of Beaujolais Maconnais Wines and will be come under their 'Bistrot' label. The price is the same as for the last 2 years, just £7.49 a bottle (NFD). To guarantee your supplies, even if you only want a bottle or two please drop me an Email and I’ll secure it for you. Cut off for orders is Friday 18 October and the wine will be available to buy from Nouveau day - Thursday 21 November.

Tasting Club

Our third session will be on Thursday 26 September – if you like the idea of an informal, once a month tasting session at the Great Howard Street shop, just give me a nod & your Email address & I’ll hook you up! We meet on the last Thursday of each month, anytime from 18:00 ‘til 20:00 with a nominal £5.00 to partake, which we refund against a £40.00 purchase or order on the night.

Outnumbered, Wairarapa

A range of 3 new wines from this small, but highly regarded region at the southern tip of the North Island. The range is produced by Matahiwi Estate just north of Masterton and incorporates:

Pinot Gris (£10.50) - a wonderfully luscious wine with aromas of pear & spice wit a tropical
richness on the off-dry palate.
Pinot Noir (£12.25)
– ripe cherry & plum aromas are complemented by toasty, spicy oak with a supple, mouth-filling finish.
Sauvignon Blanc (£10.50)crisp & refreshing with lime, passionfruit & gooseberry aromas with a hint of minerality on the finish.

Domaine de Mourchon ‘Tradition’

Regular visitors to the shop will know that Mrs Winetime & I consume (way) more than our fair share of this delightful Rhône red and I recommend it on a very regular basis. However, it’s always heartening when that enthusiasm is endorsed by luminaries such as Jancis Robinson MW who has it as her WOTW, but even more so when I see what it is being sold for elsewhere!  our price only £12.25

Wine of the Month

A wine that I have particularly been enjoying of late is Ch. Astrelus Bordeaux Supérieur 2016; a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot grown on a 7ha Estate on the south-facing slopes near Cazaugitat to the south of Saint-Émilion. The Estate is owned & run by the Dean family, who are originally from Chorley in Lancashire, but are now completely immersed in Bordeaux and are making some first-rate Claret! This is deep in colour and rich & soft on the palate with abundant dark fruit character. You can pick it up in store for only £11.95

We are absolutely delighted to have recently been appointed agent for this outstanding, family-owned Champagne House. Based on the Avenue des Champagnes in Épernay since 1834, they produce superb quality Champagnes, on a par with or better than many Grandes Marques, but at significantly lower prices!
