Adventure to Chile

In early January Adrian, Craig and Janette flew over to Santiago to visit three of our Chilean suppliers. They first travelled to Cachapoal Valley to visit Valle Secreto, then moved south to Aguirre in the Central Valley before returning to the offices of Maola in Santiago.

Valle Secreto

Valle Secreto is aptly named as it is the most beautiful, peaceful site surrounded on three sides by mountains. It provides perfect conditions for the production of high quality wines due to its location and the cooling influence of the wind that blows down the valley. Their aim is to produce the very best wines in Chile and their whole operation and range of wines is certainly very impressive.

The company owns 70 hectares of which 40 are planted with red varieties Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Syrah and Petit Verdot. It also grows Sauvignon Blanc which is made in a more European style and Viognier which is made into the most delicious dessert wine.

These wines won some IWSC awards last year and certainly are a memorable selection of wines that we are very proud to represent here in the UK.

Aguirre

They then met up with Dominic Harmsworth from Aguirre in San Fernando and after an evening enjoying his fine hospitality and BBQ skills, travelled two hours south down the Central Valley to visit the winery.

There they were shown around bottling lines and warehouse facilities before tasting our Chilinero, Vinoir and Gran Araucaria ranges and were very impressed with the quality of the new vintages, particularly the reds.

Maola

Maola specialise in producing own label products for various companies. We moved our production of Altitudes range to them last year and have been very impressed with the quality of the new and improved Reserva range.

Nicolas from Maola was able to update us on the Chilean wine market and was a mind of useful and up-to-date information.
